Clean Up Australia has been committed to getting rid of plastic bags since 2001. In partnership with the Australian Government, the Australian Retailers Association, the major supermarkets, Stockland Shopping Centres and many non-supermarket retailers, we've helped decrease plastic bag numbers significantly. Supermarkets have reduced use by 41% and overall, plastic bag numbers have been reduced by 34% - that's over 2 billion bags - but there's still a lot more work to be done.
Our 'Say NO to Plastic Bags' program encourages shoppers and retailers to start using alternatives and increase plastic bag recycling.
